All members of the Dyspraxia Foundation are cordially invited to attend the Annual General Meeting. In addition, to launch our 2009 theme of ‘Teens into Adults’ we will be hosting a day aimed at parents, teenagers (16+), anyone working with students or adults with dyspraxia or anyone with an interest in guiding them through the transitional period from education to the workplace. Speakers will give an insight into personal challenges faced as they talk about their life experience of living with dyspraxia. The day will include lunch, exhibition and resources. Registration will be at 10am and the day will close at 3.30pm.Talks include:
> ‘The Job Process and Dyspraxia.’ Jo Todd, Director of Key4Learning, Expert in Neuro-diversity and employment and advocacy in the workplace. Jo has contributed to government sponsored projects in screening for hidden disabilities and developed a Dyslexia and Dyspraxia Toolkit for line management use across the Civil Service. This session will cover the areas of disclosure, job applications, interviews, job descriptions, training and promotion.
> ‘When my space hopper wouldn’t bounce like the other children’s!’ Alex Gowing-Cumber the Dyspraxia Foundation’s Adult Advisor and an Anglican Priest serving in the parish of Chafford Hundred. Alex talks about his reflections on growing up with dyspraxia and his experience of education through to his working life as a Parish Priest.
> ‘The way out through Education: from Prison to University’ David Macquire is a Consultant with dyslexia and dyspraxia working with hard to reach young people in schools. Schooled in the eighties with undiagnosed learning differences meant David’s experience of compulsory education was extremely negative. With a diagnosis and the right support, David graduated with a first class honours degree in ‘Criminology with Sociology’ and is currently studying for a Masters Degree.
